Mom’s Favorite Apple Cake that Grandma Packer made on Sunday afternoons during Shirley Temple movies.

Cream:
1 C. sugar
1/2 C. shortening (or oil)
1 egg
1/2 t. salt
Add:
1 1/2 C. flour
1 t. soda
2 C. chopped or grated apples, or a touch less applesauce
Pour into greased cake pan.

Top with the following mixture:
1/2 C. brown sugar
1/2 C. chopped walnuts
1 t. cinnamon
Bake 350 degrees for one hour.
Serve with topped with whipped cream or ice cream.
