Desperate Mother’s Applesauce Cake from The Oregonian

Combine in order:
½ C. butter
1 C. brown sugar
1 C. applesauce
2 C. flour
1 t. baking soda
1 t. cinnamon
½ t. salt
½ t. allspice
1 C. chocolate chip pieces.
Pour into greased & floured 9 x 13 pan. Bake 350 degrees 35 minutes.

Grandma Packer’s Applesauce Cookies

Cream:
1 ½ C. shortening
3 C. sugar
3 eggs
3 C. applesauce
Add:
6 C. flour
1 ½ t. salt
3 t. soda
1 ½ t. cinnamon
1 ½ t. cloves
1 ½ t. allspice
Add:
1 ½ C. raisins or
1 ½ C. dates
½ C. nuts
Bake 350 degrees for 20 minutes.
Frost.
